Text taken from the project presentation in Paris:

"During a recent trip to Malaysia me (and the other artists at Ensba’s residence program La Seine) were invited to (kindly) invade the space of Kuala Lumpur's finest shopping mall: Starhill Gallery("A Gallery of Rich Experiences") While exploring the potential spaces between Valentino, Gucci and Salvatore Ferragamo there was a certain something that kept me from fully enjoying this glazed experience, a constant buzz, if you will. By the end of the day I will go back to the hotel humming a the complete works of the Gypsy Kings (easy listening version). Unable to afford myself some Cartier, I came home with Starhill's sound system's playlist -- I guess Giuseppe Chiari was right when he said "All art is easy. All shopping center music is the same"

Later that week I went to a concert of local artists with the hope of getting Volare out of my head. Listening to the post-rock / post-core sound of Akta Ankasa (Malaysia's response to Godspeed! you black emperor) it occurred to me that the space I wanted to intervene was that of the sound. So my piece will be played, instead of shown, through the speakers all around the seven luxurious floors of Starhill.

To that end I invited a group of Malaysian musicians and sound artists to propose the sounds they would like the local shoppers to hear while strolling at Starhill, I also asked some of my favorite musicians to lend me their music, some of the tracks that I would like to hear while (dreaming of) shopping at Starthill Gallery.

And finally, to stir things up a little, I altered, stole or simply cut and pasted songs that I've heard endlessly in elevators, at doctor's offices and, of course, at shopping centers... finding out that most of this songs were, go figure, French."
